Room with a view

view from the front gate

We went to Italy last month, and it was one of the best

vacations we ever had!  I will start off with the first place we

stayed:  Positano.  We rented this lovely apartment

from www.vrbo.com called Villa Fior di Limone.  We

had the best view from our balcony.  I would make tea

every morning, and just sit out there and enjoy the

boats on the water, or the village below.  At night, we

could hear music from one of the restaurants.  One

night we even heard a party boat in the water.  They

were blasting dance music, and I am sure the whole

town heard it!  Positano is a vertical city, with many

levels.  One day my husband decided to count the steps

up to our apartment from the main street level (the beach is

a few levels down), and there were 443 steps!  I can walk

on flat ground forever, but I was never good with uphill, or steps,

so it was a little challenge for me.  But the view was so worth it!

If you go to the Amalfi coast, I recommend this place, or at least

this town!

What do you think of my new software?

After

I just got Nik software’s Silver Efex pro 2!  The bulk of my

work is black and white, and I got inspiration from another

blogger to improve on my favorite type of photography.  The first

photo was done in photoshop, with a sepia filter, as I am quite

fond of sepia also.  The second photo is using the software.

There are so many options, I have a hard time settling on the

final image, but this is what I ended up with.  Look ok?  My

photography club is holding a charity auction at the end of

September, and I am going to contribute it.

Adventures in Babysitting Building

I learned something the other day.  The famous building in Chicago with the diamond-shaped

roof is called the Smurfit-Stone Building.  Who knew?  I had just always called it the

Adventures in Babysitting building.  Remember that scene where the little girl climbs

down the rope out of the window and is hanging there until her brother rescues her?

I personally think the scene was ruined when after he gets her, she says “Oh Brad”

in this breathy, creepy way no one should ever be saying their brother’s name.

Oh well, I love this movie anyway, and think its one of the classic movies of the

80’s (of course way down on the list from the Brat Pack movies).

I was out late one night and got a shot of an empty Van Buren train station.

The skyline with the Smurfit-Stone building in the background is a bonus,

in my opinion.  What do you think of this movie?

Swans!

available at etsy.com

When we went to Switzerland a couple years ago, we saw a lot of swans in Zurich and Lucerne.  I was very excited.

I really don’t remember seeing a swan before, and didn’t realize how beautiful they are.  I think part of the reason I was

so fascinated by them, was they were acting as substitute pets.  I have 2 cats, and I missed them terribly, so I kind of

“adopted” all the swans we saw over there.  I loved feeding them, and took lots of photos.  My favorite was seeing the swan

family in Zurich.  We were walking to the lake, when across the lawn come the mom and her gray chics (I guess more

like teenagers).  I have never seen anything so precious!  The all walked in  a single row, and went into the lake.  I love

ducks too, and am I always happy to see ducks anywhere I go 🙂

RAWartists.org-Nashville, TN

available at etsy.com

Calling Nashville area residents!  As you may know, this blog is linked to my shop at etsy.com.

Someone from Rawartists.org contacted me through that site and asked if I wanted to be in a

showcase.  I never even heard of it.  They have one every month at the Mercy Lounge on Cannery Row.

Not only are there photographers, there are fashion and jewelry designers, musicians (it is Music City), etc.

My husband and I are both going to have work in this show on Thursday, June 21.  It will be really cool

seeing all the different forms of artistry in one place.  So I am asking you to please come support

local artists by coming to the show.  And if you are some sort of artist yourself, you can be in it too!  You

can apply to be in a show on their website.  They are always looking for talent.  If you are interested,

please purchase ($10) tickets through this link: http://www.rawartists.org/lisa08.  I need the credit,

and they are more at the door.  The last day to purchase is Monday, June 18.  The photo here is

my husband’s, and it will be in the show.   I really, really appreciate you support.  Hope to meet

someone there who actually read my blog, haha!  Thank you, Lisa Long.

Iron and Brick

photo available at etsy.com

This photo follows my  posts from other cities showing my obsession with

street lamps.  This was taken in New York’s Financial District.  There is certainly

nothing fancy about this particular light, but I like how the background contains

other favorites of mine: architecture and fire escapes.

Through the alley

available at etsy.com

I don’t know why, but I love alleys.  Not the scary ones you are supposed to avoid at

night, but ones with quaint little shops or bars hidden away from the rest of the city.

I guess its the mystery, or the challenge of seeing what you can find in that alley.  And

of course I love this alley because it has street lamps!  In earlier posts, I mention my

obsession with streetlamps 🙂  This photo was taken in Lucerne, Switzerland.  Lucerne

is a pretty town nestled in the Alps, with the Reuss River going through it, and Lake

Lucerne. The town is fully of these alleyways which contain quite a bit of shopping

for a city this size, I think.  I believe there are at least 3 H&M stores here!

Mystery Window

This window is from a  building in Chicago.  We actually were on top of a parking garage, getting photos of the El Train below.

It just made me wonder why one shade was open, and the others closed, who lives there, what are they doing now..etc.  And I love

fire escapes in my photos.  So anyway, I thought it

was interesting.  I also have this up in my shop 🙂

I could use a glass of wine!

available at etsy.com

Today was a good day.  After opening my shop last month at etsy.com, I had no orders…until today!

I was happy to receive one this morning, then another appeared later in the day.  This calls for a

celebration I say!  This photo was one of the pictures sold.  My husband and I were walking along the

Seine in Paris, taking photos of every angle of the Eiffel tower you could, when I looked down and saw

this wine bottle just sitting there with the sun glistening in the river behind it.  I pictured some

romantic couple drinking from it the night before and had to get a shot of it.  If you would like to

see it (and possibly purchase it) in my shop, click here!  Merci beaucoup!

Does that thing have to be in my face?

available at etsy.com

New photo on etsy.com!  I have some photos listed with Lou’s paws, which seem to be pretty popular, but now you can see his sweet face.  But he doesn’t look too happy as I think I am interrupting his naptime 🙂
