Swans!

available at etsy.com

When we went to Switzerland a couple years ago, we saw a lot of swans in Zurich and Lucerne.  I was very excited.

I really don’t remember seeing a swan before, and didn’t realize how beautiful they are.  I think part of the reason I was

so fascinated by them, was they were acting as substitute pets.  I have 2 cats, and I missed them terribly, so I kind of

“adopted” all the swans we saw over there.  I loved feeding them, and took lots of photos.  My favorite was seeing the swan

family in Zurich.  We were walking to the lake, when across the lawn come the mom and her gray chics (I guess more

like teenagers).  I have never seen anything so precious!  The all walked in  a single row, and went into the lake.  I love

ducks too, and am I always happy to see ducks anywhere I go 🙂

Through the alley

available at etsy.com

I don’t know why, but I love alleys.  Not the scary ones you are supposed to avoid at

night, but ones with quaint little shops or bars hidden away from the rest of the city.

I guess its the mystery, or the challenge of seeing what you can find in that alley.  And

of course I love this alley because it has street lamps!  In earlier posts, I mention my

obsession with streetlamps 🙂  This photo was taken in Lucerne, Switzerland.  Lucerne

is a pretty town nestled in the Alps, with the Reuss River going through it, and Lake

Lucerne. The town is fully of these alleyways which contain quite a bit of shopping

for a city this size, I think.  I believe there are at least 3 H&M stores here!

Going down a mountain is harder than you think

Staubach Falls, Lauterbrunnen Switzerland

We went to Murren, Switzerland which is a cute village above Lauterbrunnen (elevation 5412ft).  We stayed at the Eiger Guesthouse for 5 nights, which was wonderful.  On the last day, the weather was beautiful after a few overcast days, and we decided to hike down to Lauterbrunnen.  I thought how easy this would be, because climbing up a mountain certainly is not easy (at least not for me).  It was actually difficult.  Walking downhill for that length of time is pretty strenuous.  And it was slippery from the runoff from the snow at the very top.  I actually fell a couple times, almost breaking my precious camera! The photo with the sunray coming through the clouds was taken about 10 am, in Murren before we headed down.  You can also see this photo at etsy.com.  The waterfall is Staubach falls which starts a little below from where we hiked from.   The photo with the buildings is the main street in Lauterbrunnen.   This part of the Swiss Alps is so beautiful, I bet even more so in the winter!

Introduction

Lake Zurich

Hi!  My name is Lisa and I love to travel and document my adventures through photography. Currently, I work as a research analyst in several cancer studies, but I am always planning the next trip.   I moved to Nashville, TN in 1997 with a friend where I got a job at a travel agency.  This enabled me to go places I thought I would never see otherwise.  My very first overseas trip was to Australia to see an old roommate.  Several trips to Europe followed.  In 2003, I met my husband, Jim.  Luckily, he shared my love of travel.  I would have not married him if he didn’t!  While I enjoyed taking several rolls of film everywhere I went, it didn’t occur to me until 2009 to combine travel and photography on a more serious level.  I got a second job so I could get a professional-grade camera, and it went everywhere with us.  Since then, I have been trying to perfect my skills on location, with a few still-life and my cats thrown in.  I would like to share stories behind the photos and hope that someone would like one of my images for themselves.  I sell these on www.etsy.com/shop/longworldphotography.  My husband is a great photographer also.  You can see his work in this shop too.  Thanks for taking a look!
